Chances are you have seen pictures of this MR2 many times, and with different wheels each time, each set making you drool. Well this week, Sergey’s outstanding MR2 rocks some crazy wide wheels- SSR Formula Meshies (10.5 Front and 12.5 Rear). Ever since I got into the Chicago car scene I have always drooled over Sergey’s SW20, and when I got the opportunity to shoot it for CarsxHype.com I was ecstatic. The first day it was above 20 degree’s outside we set up the shoot and got the ball rolling. Its not often that you see an MR2 on the streets, but when you see one as amazing as Sergey’s It’ll make your Jaw drop to the ground. I cant tell you how many people I saw taking a double take as he drove by them, even people who could care less about cars stare, because it is just that glorious.

The fenders have been widened both in front and in the rear to fit the massive width and crazy offsets of these SSR’s, and it looks damn good. The contrast between the Macadamia Metallic Paint and the white faces on the wheels just makes the wheels stand out that much more.

Sergey has rocked many wheel set-up’s, but most recently he has had:

Te37 17×9.5 +12 18×10.5 +15 245/35/17 Toyo R1R 295 30 18 Advan a0478 (track set)

Work Equips 18×10 -16 18×12.5 +2 225/35 265/35 tires

He wanted to challenge himself to see how crazy of fitment he could accomplish, and that’s how this set-up came to be! Only mm’s of clearance to the coilover.

The rear has been given plenty of love, between the custom diffuser made by Vinny of Destruction Warehouse, Bomex Whale Tail rear wing (Very rare wing), Border valences and more. Driving behind it you feel intimidated, then you read the license plate and laugh.

Sergey has owned and tuned many nice cars including A legit Soarer, GSX, Integra, WRX, Prelude, Evo, S2000, M5, Civic, 240SX etc etc etc but he has owned 4 MR2’s, this is the one he finally decided to keep. Even after having owned all of those cars, he just loves the MR2 so much; It has a special place in his heart. Seeing him push his MR2 up to the limits, modifying a few things and blowing the limits away hopefully inspires other MR2 owners to take that extra step and do something that hasn’t been done before.

IMG_9474

To give it the extra bit of power, he swapped in a Third-gen 3SGTE, it gets the job done without a doubt.

IMG_9694

Sergey originally bought the car to be his Daily Driver… and now its come to be this… needless to say it is no longer his dd :P When he was looking for his next MR2 (This one) he wanted a white one, and finally found one- but shortly after got bored of it and decided to go with Macadamia Metallic paint with blue flake, and the paint is his favorite part of the car now!

At the first glance you don’t notice much different about the body, you see a lip kit and spoiler, but when you look at the details you see how much work has been done to the body it self. 30mm Widened quarterpanels, 20mm widened front fenders, shaved badges, shaved side moldings, shaved side reflectors, shaved antenna and so on. It all flows so well and its all done so with such quality that it just blends in, it looks like it came that way, but it looks damn aggressive. Its the little things that set it apart from the rest, things most people would overlook but he has made sure not to leave a single part untouched.

There are many little things have been done to get Sergey’s SW20 to where it is today, even things like modifying/ rebuilding the sway bar endlink brackets to allow him to go as low as he is without issues.

Behind the glorious SSR Formula Meshies he has upgraded the brake system to the ’93+ MR2 Turbo Brake system for some extra stopping force.

Sergey’s styling is truly one of a kind, its not inspired by a car he has seen around, its not just any ordinary set up, he started from scratch and made all the minor and major adjustments and modifications to get the car to be just how he wanted it. You wont see another MR2 like his, I can guarantee that.

Now lets talk about the interior. For starters he has done a full interior swap from tan to black. Its fitted with an Autopower rollbar painted Grand Prix White, Recaro SR3 seats reupholstered with brown micro sued mounted on custom brackets, an OMP Corsica steering wheel and more.
