2014 Corvette Sketch vs Nissan GT-R

Intrigued by the title? Don’t get your hopes up too much. This isn’t a performance test, there are no numbers involved. However, there are some very interesting visual cues between the 2 cars. Continue reading to just find out what the hell I’m talking about.

So here’s your everyday GT-R, pretty standard stuff right?

Now here’s a look at the 2014 Corvette…anything familiar yet?

Okay well if gears didn’t click in your head with the last pic, try this one.

This is what I see…

Pink: the side vent is very simialr
Green: The Z06 logo has become bigger…like GT-R size bigger.
Blue: Blacked out A-pillar
Orange: similar placement of side-view mirror in relation to the A-Pillar
Red: Swooping C-Pillar, which is the color of the body, not the black A-Pillar.

Too nit picky? Well before you grab your pitchforks and torches, just think, the 2014 Vette sure looks more like a smished GT-R than the last Corvette. Right?

Even the rear end in the 2014 Corvette curves out like the GT-R, instead of being flat like the old Corvette.

I know that many of the similarities are due to the fact that they increase performance and such, but this is just my visual take on what these cars look like, take it for what its worth. Some of you may think I’m off my rocker and others may agree. I hope you found this post entertaining at the very least.

If the new Mustang looks as far off from its DNA as does this rendering of the new vette from its DNA then fans of both are in for a bumpy ride. The whacky looking Transformers vette is better looking than this generic whatever. (Bring back Bill Mitchell, Larry Shinoda and John Schinella.) PJ

This is a stretch. The areas you mapped out *kind of* resemble each other, but – like the C pillar – no close enough to make this kind of comparison. Without wasting time pulling up a few of today’s cars with similar design cues and lines, I think a case could be made for quite a few.

The overall approach to design is relatively homogeneous; not any different from any other design era. If you took the badges off of 50 cars from the twenties, you’d be hard-pressed to clearly identify them. How many cars from the fifties had fins? How many sedans from the sixties have greenhouses that you could swap from make to make?

I’ll bet, too, on asphalt, right next to each other, these “similarities” would melt away. Their form factors are actually quite different.

Love both, though! After I save up enough to have both in my garage (most likely in a parallel universe and my next life), I’ll just make sure they are not the same color.
